Hello From Rockville
Yesterday was busy day Denese dropped me off at Rick and DeeAnn's on her way to Jenny's. We had a great meal after eating and relaxing Walt, Becky and family stopped to take me back home.  Rick has built a great sliding hill and the Cafferys had to try it out even Luke enjoyed it,   after the sliding fun we headed to St. Cloud and the VA for a short visit with Harlan then on to Rockville for a lasagna dinner.  After eating we visited and Kate got my printer to work, it was time for them to head home.  I had a great Christmas and spent time with most of my family.
Today was an interesting day, I debated about going to spend time with Harlan as I have had a cold and didn't want to share it with Him, but it just isn't Sunday unless I and Harlan attend church and then go out for lunch.  Harlan called me rather in a panic so I went through the process with him on how to use the call button to get help.   When I got in he was dressed in pj's and when I talked to a nurse she said that there is a 24 hour "bug" going through the floor and I decided Harlan needed to stay there, he was cold so I helped him get dressed with jeans and a sweater and he was warmer.  I went to church by myself but I ordered a dinner at the VA so I could eat with Harlan.  When I left the VA another problem came into play, I couldn't leave the building the new security system put in service on Harlan's floor went into a lock down mode, no door could be opened nor any elevator would close and leave the floor this was all do to progress, a new security system had been installed to protect the resident that can't leave the floor without an escort (like Harlan) and it over reacted not letting anyone leave. After a nurse scurried around, dug out a book for instructions to disarm it I was on my way to church and I was on time, just barely.  When I got back it was lunch time but Harlan did not want to eat which was good as more food in his tummy was not a good idea, he should be okay tomorrow, so I can take him out, he really thought he was fine to go for a treat today.
I had a great Christmas but it will be nice to have some quiet time to just relax so until tomorrow Good Night.......Fran

Hello From Rockville
My day started out with a phone call from Myrna wanting to know if I wanted to meet her for "coffee" and you know me I never turn down a chance to eat out.  I met her at IHop at 10 A.M. and we had such a good time eating, drinking coffee and catching up on news.  After eating I headed back to Rockville then into St. Cloud to spend time with Harlan.
Right now we are getting more snow not a lot but everything is coated with fresh white stuff and everything looks so fresh and clean.
I took Harlan out for a treat this afternoon and when I helped him unzip  his jacket I noticed his wedding ring was on his pointer finger on his left hand not his ring finger.  It was so tight I didn't think it was possible for him to take it off and how it ever went on his pointer finger I'll never figure out.  I asked him about it and he told me, "You came in the night and did that."  He was able to take it off and put it back on his ring finger, I do find surprises at times.  We had our treat at the Park Diner, his was a hot fudge sundae.  I stopped at the bank then we went for our treat and back to the VA.  Today was good and my time with Harlan was good too....Fran

Hello From Rockville
Wow!  I have my ironing all caught up that is until I wash again.
I brought clothes in for Harlan today so he is well supplied and can have a choice on what to wear after his bath.  I took him to Culver's for a sundae, it was good we hadn't been there for a while then back to the VA, we talked and watched TV then I went to the mall I need to see why I have so much trouble with my phone and I got no help there, will have to see what my next move will be.
I think it's bed time and I'll write again tomorrow.......Fran

Hello From Rockville,
A very snowy day, I did not go in to spend time with Harlan, I have talked to him several times.  He called me and I could hear that he had some distress with his breathing, he didn't think so.  I called the nurses station and Jessie went down to his room and gave him his neb, when I talked to him later he was much better, he ate supper and when I called him to tell him to watch the Vikings he was all ready watching them.
Tonight Denese and I had a fun time baking cookies a lot of goofs and laughs.
I'll go in and spend time with Harlan tomorrow as the snow has stopped and it's not going to be really cold.
Until tomorrow good night.......Fran

Hello From Rockville
It looks like yet another winter advisory headed our way with snow accumulation of up to 8 inches.  We will be assured of a white Christmas and temperatures will remain below freezing so the snow won't go away.  The Vikings play tomorrow, I wonder how they will do with the  coming snow storm.
Harlan called me early this morning as he was having difficulty breathing and I was able to "walk him through" the procedure to get help with his breathing and it worked.  I could call the nurses station but I want him to be able to do it himself if he can't get a hold of me.
I took Him to church, he didn't want to miss another Sunday of not going, it was cold but the car is warm, after church we went to Perkins for lunch then back to the VA and just laid around and napped, just nothing to watch on TV.  I guess that is it for now......Fran

Hello From Rockville
DeeAnn baked up a storm yesterday and today, lots of cookies in the house.
When I went in to see Harlan his glasses were on his night stand and rather bent out of shape and they were his favorite, I got another pair out so he could see and I hope they work for him.  I took Him in to get his new hearing aids and now it will be something new for him to get used to and hope his ears don't get sore as I think he wears them 24/7 we'll see how his ears feel tomorrow morning when I go in to take him to church.  I took coffee and cookies in for him before we went for his new aids and stayed in as it was so cold with a wind chill of about 3 degrees it was nice not to leave until I went home, so no treat today.
Today was a good day.......Fran

Hello From Rockville
This morning I had a lab appointment then out for breakfast and some shopping then home to pick up a few clothes for Harlan and I spent the afternoon with him.  We went to the Park Diner for our treat then back to the VA and I gave him a badly needed hair cut.  It was really getting shabby at least he looks better for Christmas.
This evening DeeAnn and Sarah joined Denese and I for supper, on full tummies DeeAnn and I baked several batches of cookies and will do more tomorrow.
This was one of my quieter days but a good one, so until tomorrow, good night..........Fran

Hello From Rockville
The weather has warmed up but still below freezing.  Parts of Minnesota got snow last night,we did not, the roads I drive are good and mostly dry.
Today was car care day.  First I picked up my car license tabs, then got my very dirty car washed and got an oil change and grease job, only to find out I have a few things that need fixing, must make arrangements for that.
I went in to see Harlan early and took him to IHOP for our treat then back to the VA and just rested, I manage to get a little nap in while watching TV.  I received several call from him this morning and he seemed confused but this afternoon he was better.  While we were at IHOP he says to me, "This is the place that a car drove into isn't it?"  We had not talked about it so where that came from I do not know, at times he just amazes me at what he recalls and then again he can't do the simplest everyday things like his seat belt or the zipper on his jacket.
I got home with a little time to spare before our Christmas dinner in the community room.  Mel and Rale prepared ham and everyone else filled in the rest to make it a great dinner and social.
Today was a good day and tomorrow should be even better.

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Hello From Rockville,
Today was a quiet day spent with Harlan.  The day was hard for him and I don't know why.  My first call from him came early this morning before I was up and when I looked at my cell phone he called me a total of 9 times today.  When I checked with the nurses he had taken all his meds, I thought maybe he had refused some.  He was really down and teary eyed, when he is sad I hurt too.  I needed a few groceries we shopped at Cashwise, I needed to make an appointment for an oil change we stopped at McKay's and we needed a treat we stopped at Park Diner.  When I took him back to the VA he was so sad, he walked me to the elevator but called me just after I got home and I could hear the sadness in his voice so I talked to the nurses and asked them to try and pay some attention to him and give him some extra love.  He has not called this evening so I hope he is resting and doing better, I will see him tomorrow.
I enjoyed my time with him even if I couldn't take his sadness away and I know tomorrow will be better......Fran

Hello From Rockville
What a busy day and it was cold, it's suppose to warm up a bit and I can't wait but there is snow in the forecast.
The morning started out with temps below zero and today was my day to help with reading at school, I ate lunch with the students and helped a bit with setting up for our Ladies Christmas dinner then joined Harlan for his Christmas party at the VA.  Harlan just could not understand how I knew about his party and didn't tell him, then Rick and DeeAnn showed up and he just couldn't figure out why they were there for his party either.  They served us meat balls, crackers with cheese and sausage and a Christmas cookie.  Gifts were handed out to the residents and their spouses, and we had entertainment, Harlan enjoyed it and everyone had a great time.
I stayed with Him until five then headed home to get ready and go back to St. Cloud for our dinner at church.  Denese and I ate well and enjoyed our time there, we also had a gift exchange and came home with lovely "white elephant gifts", Denese with a ceramic pumpkin and me with a candle, jar of jelly and two red dollies, we both did very well.
So much for a busy day, tomorrow should be quieter, I hope...........Fran

Monday, December 13, 2010

Hello From Rockville
Tomorrow will be another cold day, AM starts with temps below zero in the teens, BRRR!
When I went in to see Harlan the temp was about +3 so we went to McD for our treat, he had a hot fudge sundae and I had a fresh coffee of decaf.  While we ate Harlan started having difficulty with his breathing I carry an inhaler with me so I gave him several puffs and it helped his breathing but as soon as he was done he wanted to go back to the VA which we did and I had them give him a breathing treatment using his neb machine and that really helped him.  I have not heard from him so I think his evening went better.  They were doing cleaning at McD so maybe there was something in the air that caused it.
Tomorrow is his Christmas party, because parking is limited I'll try and go in early so I can get a parking space close to his building, it's just too cold to walk too far.
Will be in touch tomorrow......Fran

Sunday, December 12, 2010

Hello From Rockville
We are having very cold weather but the snow has moved out of here which is good.
Denese and I went to church but I decided it was just too cold to take Harlan out.  After church we picked Harlan up and went to Perkins where DeeAnn and Rick joined us, we had a good time eating and chatting.  Denese dropped Harlan and I off at the VA and she went shopping.  Harlan and I just watched TV and relaxed until Denese picked me up.  We had a good time and Harlan had a good day too.
Tomorrow evening we are going to go on a walk through to see how everyone has decorated for Christmas and then meet in the community for cookies and coffee, everyone here is welcome to go on the walk but we will only go in the units of those who wish to let us see them, I think this will be fun and give us ideas for next years decorating.  Denese has worked so hard at decorating my place it is so pretty.
Until tomorrow good night.....Fran

Hello From Rockville
We are supposed to get snow and wind tomorrow, we have blizzard warnings.  If we get the snow etc., I may not go in to see Harlan.
This morning we had our board meeting and we had a lot to cover, it was a long meeting, 9:45 to 12:30, we will meet again in about two months.
Today I needed several grocery items and I had to return a shirt I got at K-mart, I took Harlan out for the shopping followed with a treat at McD, he had a sundae, his favorite thing at McD.  I spent an hour with him when we got back to the VA then headed home.
We went (Denese and I) to church for the annual adult Christmas party.  We had ham and everyone brought something to fill in, such good stuff we both ate too much.   Denese won a door prize and we each got to take home a wooden letter or napkin holder pastor made.
When we left church Denese and I went to Walmart and picked up a few items.
If you are where the winter storm is keep safe and warm.....Fran

Hello From Rockville
Today was a quiet day, I took Harlan shopping at K-Mart first we had pizza at the Pizza Ranch, we ordered a large one and I took half home which was supper tonight, then to K-Mart.  I needed address labels for my Christmas cards and also found a Christmas sweat shirt and turtle neck to wear under it which I'll wear to "death" until after Christmas then save it until next year.
Nothing BIG happened as I said just a quiet day............Fran

Hello From Rockville
This is Tuesday and my day to help children with reading.  I came home for lunch then went in to spend time with Harlan.
I had just parked the car and my phone rang.
Me, "Hello."
Harlan, "I have company, some one you know."
Me, "Who?"
Harlan, "His name starts with R."
Me, "What's the next letter in his name?"
Harlan, "I."
Me, "Rick."
Harlan, "Yes, and someone else, hurry and come."
Me," I'll be right there."
And of course I was right there as quickly as I could, just minuets.  He was so excited about Rick and Sarah and couldn't believe how fast I got there.
We went to Culver's for treats on Rick.
Today Harlan was so much more awake than yesterday and we had a good time together....Fran

Monday, December 6, 2010

Hello From Rockville
Today was another cold day.
I went in to spend time with Harlan, he was tired and just wanted to sleep, no treat today.  I'm glad I went and put gas in the van as I just didn't want him to be out in the cold and the wind when he didn't feel good.  We just had a quiet time together and I left early, he got his meds before I left.  He usually walks me to the elevator but today he just stayed in his room and "I let myself out."
My tire light had been on since last Thursday, I stopped by McKay's they put air in for me and said all the tires were low, glad I stopped.
Tonight we had carolers in the hall, Girl and Boy Scouts and after they were done we were able to go down for cookies and hot apple cider, they were so cute.
That's it for today.........Fran

Hello From Rockville
It's cold here and not much sun, our highs and lows are about 15 degrees below average.  The wind chill is down around zero or less in the morning.
So much for the weather I spent the day with Harlan we went to church and out for lunch at Grizzlies, I had their chicken and Harlan had the ribs he really enjoys them right down to the bones.  After eating we headed back to the VA and watched the Vikings win -two in a row!!!
While watching the game Harlan had visitors - Santa, Mrs. Santa and their helpers and also a young man in uniform, he received a bag of goodies.   Mrs Santa called him "Harlan Darling" and that went right over his head.  The visitors really brightened up the day.
Shortly after the game finished I left for home.
We had an other treasured day I enjoy being with him and we have a good time together....Fran

Hello From Rockville
Happy Birthday Denese!
It's very quiet here this evening, Denese went to St. Paul to spend time with Jenny and the girls and celebrate her birthday.  She'll be back tomorrow.
I had a surprise phone call from Shirley she was in town and spending time with Harlan, he enjoyed that.
I went in and spent time with him later and did not see Shirley. He played bingo and was able to win one game and then we went to McD for a treat, we each had a burger he had coffee and I had a side salad.  When we went back he took his meds and neb which he needed, his breathing has been more difficult and I came home, I try to leave before dark when it's cold or snowy.
I haven't brought him to Rockville or Cold Spring for a while and he seems more content when he stays close to the VA.  I do notice he is haveing more difficulty expressing himself not being able to find the right words and this frustrates him, it seems to satisfy him if I tell him I'll check on it or we'll talk about it later and he drops what ever he is trying to tell me and that seems to take away the frustration.
We had a good day and as I always say each day together is a special blessing.........Fran

Hello From Rockville
I met John and Donna Jean and went to Minneapolis for our Christmas care group, we had a great dinner.  After we returned to St. Cloud I spent time with Harlan.  He had gotten his new glasses but it seams he doesn't care for them, I'll try and encourage him to wear them when we go out as they are bifocals and it should help him when he tries to read or eat.
I then came home and met Denese, we went to Cold Spring for our "evening meal", samples at the grocery store, the purpose of the samples was to give us ideas for our holiday parties, the samples was very filling and tasty.
After eating we headed into St. Cloud and Aldis to pick up cookie baking supplies.
Today was a busy day but a good one.........Fran

Hello From Rockville
This is Wednesday and my home is clean also I have my laundry caught up, now to get my ironing done.
I spent time with Harlan and the weather was much better today not as windy as yesterday but still much below freezing, he dressed warm and I was able to take him out.  We did our thing at Perkins but there is road construction going on and we will not go there again unless it's Sunday with less traffic, and I did hit the area at around four and people going home from work.
I was with Harlan when he took his meds and that went well then I left for home.
We had a good day...........Fran

Hello From Rockville
We had another day packed with activities. Sue I went to Cold Spring for breakfast we met Ed and had a good time chatting and eating then picked up a few groceries and headed home.  Then met Rick and Sarah for lunch at Five Guys, it a good hamburger place but too noisy for Harlan, we took him there once but he didn't like it.
We stopped at McD for coffee and cookies to take to Harlan as I felt it was much too cold to take him out, wind chill was just above zero.  Then it was time for Sue and Rick to head to Minneapolis so Sue could catch her flight for home, it's been so cold she was glad to head to warmer places.
I laid down with Harlan for a short nap and it was so cute he woke me up and suggested I go home because of the weather and I'm glad I did as it was snowing and so cold, i wish it would warm up  but with highs only in the twenties it's cold and that is what's ahead for the week.
This evening I had a meeting to go to and now it's bed time.  Talk again tomorrow.......Fran

Monday, November 29, 2010

Hello From Rockville
I missed Sunday blogging because of a trip to St. Paul.
Sunday Sue and I took Harlan to church.  I took him in jeans as I didn't have dress pants with for him and I feel he felt that was not the right thing for him to wear, but it was okay.
After church we went to Grizzleys for lunch then back to the VA to watch the Vikings win one finally. After the game we took a little rest and about five Sue picked me up and we headed down to St. Paul and Jenny's for the night.  I had the fun of bedding down with great granddaughter Izzy, she is three and sleeps where ever she wants to in her queen sized bed, I really did get a good night's sleep as the bed was big enough for both of us.
Sue took me over to spend time with Doris and Bob and she went back to Jenny's to get her hair cut.  Bob Doris and I went to Perkins for breakfast, we ate, drank coffee and visited.  I really enjoyed my time with them.  Sue picked me up and we headed back to St. Cloud in rain, it rained all the way.
When we got to the VA we took Harlan out for a treat and I wanted Sue to see the Park Diner so that's where we had our treat, both Sue and I had lunch and Harlan had a hot fudge sundae.
Sue leaves tomorrow, we had fun together and I'll miss her.
Until next time - Good Night.......Fran

Hello From Rockville
My livingroom is starting to look a lot like Christmas every where I look, the elves Denese and Sue have been hard at work, it looks so NICE!
Sue and I went to spend time with Harlan and today was his bingo day, he did well but with no hearing aids it's a bit harder for him to hear.  After Bingo we took Harlan to Antons and met Denese, Rick and DeeAnn for dinner there.  Harlan was hungry as he had not eaten  lunch so he really "cleaned his plate" of the BBQ ribs and most of his potatoes, he does enjoy ribs, that was one thing he enjoyed making and we enjoyed eating.  We had a good time together and after we ate Sue and I took Harlan back to his room and after good byes we headed back to Rockville.  Rick and DeeAnn came back just to check on dessert and left for home shortly after we got there.
Today was a great day and a good day with Harlan........Fran

Hello From Rockville
Here goes another two day blog, this is beginning to be a habit, two day blogs that is.
Yesterday Denese and I went in to have a Thanksgiving Day dinner with Harlan.  I ordered dinner in the morning and we joined him at noon, we had one dinner between the two of us as we were going to have dinner with Becky's family at 4.  We ate dinner with Harlan then left for Lakeville at 1:30.  We had a good trip down, did go through several snow showers with blowing snow but no problems.
Sue flew in in the morning and was at Becky's when we got there we had a great dinner with turkey and all the trimmings - Oh so good!
Denese, Sue and I spent the night in Lakeville after a good nights sleep and a wonderful breakfast we headed to St. Louis Park and a stop at Megan and Paul's.  They have an adorable home and she has done a great job in decorating.
We then headed home and after dropping Denese off Sue and I went in to spend time with Harlan. Sue went in to see him and I stayed out in the hall, I think Harlan knew Sue when he saw her at least he sure seemed to know her.  He decided a sundae would taste good and we did our thing at Culver's Sue and Harlan had turtle sundaes and I had chili, then back to the VA.  Harlan protested the neb and didn't complete the treatment, but because his breathing seems better I didn't push him.  We watched Jeopardy and headed home.
The last two days have been great and we'll enjoy time with Sue until she leaves on Tuesday,,,,Fran

Hello From Rockville
HAPPY THANKSGIVING
I have so much to be thankful for.
Today I did not go in to see Harlan, the time I usually leave to go see him we were having a mini blizzard and that is not a good time for me to be on the road.
We are going to spend Thanksgiving with Becky and Walt and the family. Sue comes in tomorrow and Becky will pick her up.  Denese and I along with Sue will stay in Lakeville Thursday night and return home on Friday in time to spend time with Harlan.
I pray safe travels for each and everyone of you and a special Thanksgiving to everyone.......Fran

Hello From Rockville
I did not blog yesterday, Denese called me after she had gone to work, she did not want me to go out as it was raining and slippery, I stayed home.
Today was my day to "work" at church, I help with reading and also work on the labels etc in between.   After helping with reading I went home for lunch then to the VA to see Harlan.
Harlan called me to tell me I had a letter waiting for me, in fact he called me several times about the letter.  The letter was telling me of the meeting I have with the staff in January.
After I had been with Harlan a short time he says to me, "I didn't know your name was Platzer."  (The letter had my name and address on it.)  I asked what he thought my name should be and he didn't know.  He asked me "How long has your name been Platzer?"  I told him,  "Nearly sixty years."  There were no more comments.
We took our break at the Park Diner and shared their sliders and potato bites then back to the VA for meds and neb then I came home.  He protested the neb but did take it.  At the diner he had a hard time trying to unzipper his jacket but had no trouble zippering it up when we left the VA to go to the diner.
Today was a good day and we'll see what the weather brings for tomorrow..........Fran

Sunday, November 21, 2010

Hello From Rockville
I try not to let Harlan know when it's Saturday as he then knows that the next day is Sunday because when he does I get numerous phone calls from him in the evening and even during the night.  That is what happened yesterday and I got at least three calls during the night and for no particular reason just to talk but it seems to upset him when he knows the day is going to be different, he looks forward to church but if I can some how distract him from knowing when Sunday is coming we both get a better nights sleep.
When he called at 6:30 this morning I told him I wasn't sure if we would be able to go church as we were getting freezing rain and the best place for both of us was at home safe and sound.  When I looked out cars were going through town and didn't seem to be having any driving issues so I decided it would be okay for me to try it.  I got ready and left for McD my first stop.  When I pulled onto Broadway Street the intersection was slippery but that area had not been sanded and I preceded on to #23, there the traffic was traveling well below the speed limit I was thankful for that.  I drove into McD parking lot for my breakfast and stepped out of the car I decided that was not for me I got back in my car and headed for the drive thru picked up breakfast and parked and ate then into pick up Harlan for church.  It was a little slippery driving but not bad.  After church I had my keys in my hand giving Harlan "orders" to stay put and I'd pick him up, I had hardly given him the orders when my keys were taken from me by Pastor Campbell and the car brought right to the door, I so appreciated that, he not only fed our souls but also protected our bodies, "Bless his heart!"
We had lunch at IHOP then back to the VA and watched the Vikings loose.  Because I was not sure of the weather I left while it was still day light with just a light drizzle.
My day was adventurous but good and I had a good day with Harlan......Fran

Hello From Rockville
Harlan had an audiology appointment and I was not sure how that would go as he has a hard time putting into action what he hears and it is important for him to hear sounds and words, the appointment was to last up to an hour but it only lasted about half that time.  When we got there, good thing we were early, I had forgotten papers in his room that Gene had filled out to be taken along, to walk back and pick them up and return was over a 10 minute walk which I did and got back just as they were taking him in, I don't like it when I goof things up!  They tested him and he will get new aids in about a month.
We did not leave for a treat as he said he was tired and he was having some difficulty with his breathing.  After his meds I left, stopped at the grocery store and came home.
It's quiet around here as Denese went to the Cities to spend time with Jenny and the girls, a nice time for them and the girls can have fun with Grandma, they all needed that.
Tomorrow is church we'll see how that goes............Fran

Friday, November 19, 2010

Hello From Rockville
Today the support group met at the VA, we always meet at 1:00 after that I go up to see Harlan. Tomorrow will be our coldest day so far this fall, but we have no snow so that's good.
I spent the afternoon with Harlan, first a trip to the bank then a stop to fill the car and last a treat.  We had our treat at the Park Diner, Harlan a hot fudge sundae and me a glass of Sprite.  When ever we stop there Harlan always goes back to wash his hands and the waitress many times will stop to chat and she sits where Harlan sits, when he comes back she tells him she is just keeping his seat warm, today when he came back there she was sitting "to keep his seat warm".  My comment when he came back, "She never keeps my seat warm, see how you rate!"  I decided my hands needed washing and when I got back my seat was being kept warm.  She had quite a conversation with him, he told her he had known me a hundred years and had been married that long and they all were wonderful years, memory loss has it's blessings!
They have started rerouting traffic on Veterans drive on the bridge going over the river, it will go down to one lane of traffic each way , I understand it will be like this for a long time, what a mess.  I will find a different way to get to the VA to see Harlan.
See you all tomorrow........Fran
Hello From Rockville
I had an early start on the day as Harlan had an 8:00 AM appointment in audiology.  I was at the VA before 7:30, Harlan had had breakfast and we left his room at 7:45 I used a wheel chair to get him there, just too far for him to walk.  They will remake the aid that hurt his ear and try and retest him for new hearing aids, I'm not sure how that will work as he has a hard time responding to instructions, his appointment is on Saturday at 3:00.
After his morning appointment he took me to breakfast at the VA, he gets books worth $1.00 when he wins at bingo and they can only be spent at the VA, we both had a good breakfast.   I stayed with him until 11:00 then headed home and made pumpkin pies for our Thanksgiving pot-luck, while they were in the oven I helped Mary set up for our dinner, we had a great turn out over twenty of us and we had a great dinner, in fact when I got home Denese and I took naps, didn't see much on TV then Denese went to bed and I did my blog.
This is it until tomorrow..........Fran

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Hello From Rockville
We had a good day, Harlan and I enjoyed hamburgers at the Park Diner, then back to the VA for TV and a nap, a quiet day.  Tomorrow Harlan has an early morning appointment for his hearing aids, I'll leave here at 7:00 AM (in the dark), his appointment is at 8:00.  One aid is too tight and it makes his ear sore and the other one is so loose it hardly stays in, we'll see what can be done.
I'll let you know tomorrow what the results are.......Fran

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Hello From Rockville
Harlan and I went to Culver's  for our treat, sundaes what else?  And they were good!  After the treat we both took a nap.  When he meds nurse came around Harlan was not too happy and really didn't want to take his neb and only took part of it, some of the med nurses seem to handle him better then others the one today was gruff and demanding and that doesn't go well for Harlan he really needs some one with a lot of patience and understanding because of his inability to understand and remember.  He didn't call me this evening saying he couldn't breath so I think he must have gotten enough of the neb to help with his breathing.
Tomorrow is another day will write again...........Fran

Hello From Rockville
It is so chilly, I'm not ready for winter and this wet weather makes the car dirty and when I get it washed it only looks clean as I exit the car wash, when I get on the road it's ready for another wash and on it goes.
I took Harlan to church then we went to Perkins for lunch.  Denese joined us and after lunch we went back to the VA and watched the Vikings loose.
The day was quiet but a good day, will write again tomorrow.......Fran

Hello From Rockville
WINTER IS HERE!!!
I did not write yesterday as I didn't spend time with Harlan. At 8:30 I went into St. Cloud to take a refresher class for driving as this reduces my auto insurance considerably and at 1:00 I had a budget meeting here, not leaving enough hours in the day to do everything.
This morning started with laundry and then Denese and I headed to the Treasure Chest and shopped for clothes, she finds really cute things there.  I found a really nice winter coat and several other things.  We lunched at the Red River Inn in Cold Spring and then came home.  At 3:30 Harlan had an appointment to see if he could get new glasses without trifocals just bifocals as he doesn't like all the lines, I'll find out Monday if they will do that.  After his appointment he played bingo and then we went to McD for our afternoon treat.
I left early as I don't like snow and I don't care to drive after dark when there is snow or rain coming down.
Today was a good day...........Fran

Hello From Rockville
Applebees has a free meal for anyone that is serving in the armed forces or has served, Sarah went ahead and made reservations giving us a wait of 40 minuets.  I took Harlan there and we met Sarah, Wes and Sarah's girl friend (sorry I don't remember her name) at Applebees and had a great lunch everyone had  a free dinner except me.  After eating I took Harlan back to the VA so he could nap and I left, a quick stop at the grocery store and I came home and just laid around.
Today was a good day for both Harlan and I and it's aways good to eat and not cook.  I hope your Veteran's Day was as good as mine...........Fran
Hello From Rockville
This is Veterans Day a very special day to remember all our Veterans and all the Men and Women that are serving to keep our country free.

Hello From Rockville
I know, I'm a day late!
The day started with Bible study at 8:30, Mary and I are studying James followed with a short meeting at 10:00.  Mary Kay donated a beautiful Christmas tree to be used here in our building and we had to decide where we could store it after it is taken down.
I called Harlan to encourage him to go to lunch, he did not answer the phone but one of the nurses answered as she was there to get him to go for lunch said he would not answer the phone, I'm sure he knew it was me and didn't want to eat..  He told me he didn't want to eat as he didn't feel good, his stomach hurt, I suggested that he at least go down and drink his milk and many times when he goes to eat he will eat his meal even if he says he's not hungry.   When I got there he had an empty glass that had a bit of milk in it so at least he did have something to eat. May times I suggest that he check his dessert out and skip the rest, the kids remind me that when they were little I never allowed to them to skip the food and go right to their dessert, oh how things have changed.  Harlan's treat consisted of a hot fudge sundae at the Park Diner and coffee for me.
After treat time we went back to the VA for Harlan's meds and TV, I left at 5:00 to meet Denese and Cheryl at Grizzlies for "Girl's Night Out" we had a great time and Cheryl looks fantastic, not a wrinkle, not a grey hair and so trim, well enough about her!  We had a great time and wonderful food and we need to do that again.  After all the eating and chit-chat Denese and I went to Target to pick up a few thing then home to listen to Bush's interview only to realize we missed most of it, we were an hour late as the advertised time was 7:00 Eastern time not Central time.
I had a fantastic day with Harlan, Cheryl and Denese........Fran

Hello From Rockville
Rick and DeeAnn came over and we had lunch together.  Denese made lasagna and we had apple crisp for dessert also made enough to send some home with them.
I spent the afternoon with Harlan this being Saturday it was bingo for him and he did win one game.  After bingo we went to McD for our treat, a sundae for Harlan and coffee for me.  Harlan was very surprised when Rick and DeeAnn walked in, Rick was concerned that Harlan wouldn't know him as  it had been a long time since  they had been up but Harlan knew them and enjoyed time with them.
When I left the VA I went to the mall to do some shopping and picked up my new glasses then home for the evening.
Today was a good day and it was so good to see Rick and DeeAnn..............Fran

Hello From Rockville
Oh! What a day.  First I joined the VA Support Group for Memory Loss, we were a small group only three of us then I headed up to see Harlan.  In heading down the hall past the visiting lounge to his room I was stopped by several staffers, they wanted to talk to me before I saw him.  I stopped and I was told to sit down, my thoughts went a mile a minuet, "Now what, what's going on?"  Some one said, "Oh, it's not that bad".  Then I was told he had shaved off his eye brows, and they thought I should know before I went in to see him.  We laughed about it and I got up leave, took a few steps down the hall then turned around peeked into the room and said, "Both of them?"   When I got to his room I asked him if he wanted his glasses cleaned (I usually clean them when I'm there) he handed me his glasses and YES, his eye brows are GONE every single hair, he has a bald forehead! I asked him why and he told me there was stuff in them and that was the only way to get them cleaned.
Harlan took his jacket and we headed to Fleet Farm for gas and and a car wash, after gassing up and washing the van we stopped at the Park Diner for our treat.  Harlan had a hot fudge sundae and I had a Sprite.  Again I asked him about his eye brows, this time he said they were full of gum and cutting them off was the only way to get rid of it, he doesn't chew gum.
I left early to avoid driving into the sun, this weekend when day light saving goes away my problem will be gone.
Today was a good day.....Fran

Hello From Rockville
The weather was cool and windy, not one of our nicer days.
I needed groceries and the van gassed up but because Harlan always pumps the gas we decided it was just too cold for him to stand out and pump gas, we skipped that part.
I did go and pick up some groceries and from there we had our treat at the Park Diner, Harlan had his little burgers (Sliders) and his favorite potatoes.  After the treat we headed back to the VA and watched TV and he did his meds and neb and I left for home.
I am going to go in earlier to spend time with him and leave earlier because my trip home is directly into the setting sun, I travel SW not good this time of the year.
Tonight was our November birthday night, there were seven of us the group is getting smaller and smaller.
The wonderful smell of cinnamon is drifting past my nose, Denese just took apple crisp out of the oven and I must try some before I go to bed, I wish I could share it with each and everyone of you, you'll just have to take my word for it that is is good, on that note good night........Fran

Hello From Rockville
Today's weather was cool and windy.
I spent time with Harlan, we went to McD for our treat, Harlan had a hot fudge sundae and I had a smoothie.  Sue called and Harlan was able to handle the cell phone and talk to her.  We were at McD when she called.
We had a good day together, nothing exciting but a good day........Fran

Hello From Rockville
Today has been a busy day, first I voted, then a stop at McD for breakfast then to church to listen to the children read, I volunteer from 9:15 to noon on Tuesdays.  After that I went home changed clothes and headed back to St. Cloud and the VA.  They are installing a new call system for the residents and the installation takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours per room and it's best that Harlan is not there as he gets so upset when he has to stay out of his room for any length of time.  I grabbed a McD hamburger, a drink and apple dippers and joined Harlan for lunch then stalled around until 1:30 and took off for the mall and T-Mobile.  My phone has been giving me a hard time, to stall for time that was a good place to stop and I got my phone fixed, I hope.  After that we went to McD for our treat, yes, my third stop there today.  When we returned to the VA Harlan's room was ready to be occupied, we rested watched TV, Harlan did his Neb and meds and I went home.
Today was a good day and now it's time for bed, I'm tired......Fran

Hello From Rockville, Minnesota
DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!
My day started with an 8:30 Dr. appointment for a blood draw, it went well.  My appointment was a fasting one so after that I headed to the Red River Inn for breakfast then up stairs to drop off my auto insurance payment and to pick up POA papers.  We have a neat Dollar Store in Cold Spring and I found several things with "my name" on and I really needed and bought them, then on to the bank for more money and home for a bite to eat before heading to the VA for a 1:45 appointment with the staff involved with Harlan, just to know how things are going and to exchange thoughts on the best way to care for him.  I wanted to know when he had had his last hearing aid and eye check as neither hearing aid fit well and he needs new glasses, he has trifocals and really doesn't need that, a bifocal would do him just fine.
After the appointment Harlan and I went to Bed Bath and Beyond for a few things then to the Pizza Ranch for pizza, we got a large one with enough leftover for Denese and I for supper.
I stayed with Harlan long enough for him to take his meds and neb machine and we watched Jeopardy and I came home.
After Denese got home we headed to Cold Spring as I had to pick up a prescription and we both found a few things we needed and back home for our pizza.  After eating and relaxing we watched SF win the World Series, now that that's over with and tomorrow all the political stuff will be over with too maybe TV will be back to normal (what ever that is).
My day was great hope yours was too.........Fran

Hello From Rockville, Minnesota
A cool sunny day, not bad for the last day of October.
Denese finished cleaning up my patio and bringing in more plants, it would be nice if they lasted until spring.
I took Harlan to church followed by lunch at I-HOP.  Several weeks ago someone tried to make I-HOP a drive through so at this time only part of it is open while the other part is being remodeled, we did have to wait to be seated, it seems every restaurant is busy at noon on Sundays and we have to wait to be seated no matter where we go.  We had good eating and plenty of coffee and with satisfied tummies we headed over to Menard's for some shopping then back to the VA for some resting and relaxation.  I left after Harlan took his meds and neb machine.  When I got home Denese had started Apple Crisp and and the beginnings of chicken soup, I had Apple Crisp with ice cream but will have to wait for the soup.
Today was a good day......Fran

Hello From Rockville, Minnesota
It's 8:00 P.M. and I just got home from St. Cloud.
Today was laundry day and Denese cleaned up and got rid of all my frozen flowers, dug up my gladiolus bulbs, they are stored in the garage and put hoses away.  She re potted some plants to take in for the winter and also cleaned the garage, it looks so nice.
I spent the afternoon with Harlan and Saturday is bingo day, he won one game, after bingo we met Sarah and Wes at Culver's.  We had just pulled up to Culver's and Sarah approached the car so I asked Harlan, "Do you know who that is?"  Harlan, "No".  Then Wes came just behind Sarah and I asked Harlan, "Do you know who that is?"  Harlan, "No, but his is with her".  I think he has gotten so used to seeing the two together he has to see both to know who they are, he does not remember names but recognizes faces.  It was so good to see Wes and Sarah, it's been a while since we have seen them.  We enjoyed treats at Culver's, then back to the VA.
I stayed with Harlan until 5:00 then left to meet Denese at Crossroads Mall.  We shopped around then stopped for a bit to eat and came home.  Today was a great day!!!
Will watch Texas/SF, hope Texas wins, they need it, then go to bed, will write again tomorrow........Fran

Hello From Rockville, Minnesota
My living room looks kind of like a greenhouse, I brought plants in that I hope will last through the winter and can be planted out in the spring.  When we brought them in I even brought in a bee, it probably wanted to live through the winter too but it choose the wrong place to do so.
I spent the afternoon with Harlan, first we checked the dinning area as volunteers had brought in a treat, a German like soup, we  were given a small bowl with a slice of buttered dark bread, Harlan did not care for his so I ate mine and his too (I can't through good food away).  After the treat at the VA we went to Culver's for ice cream sundaes, we settled for a one scooper and returned to the VA, I took a little nap and left there around five.
I had a good day with Harlan, my back is nearly back to normal and I'm thankful for that.........Fran

Thursday, October 28, 2010

Hello From Rockville, Minnesota
We had sunshine today, it's still windy and cool, but I love the sun.
I took Harlan shopping, first to Walgreen's then to K-Mart and Fleet Farm and last of all for a treat at the Park Diner.  Right now I'm a bit upset with K-Mart, they advertised an item which was not ever to be in stock at the K-Mart I went to and it's the only K-Mart in St. Cloud, I knew there was a reason I didn't shop there often, this has happened to me before, I may have to make Target my shopping headquarters.
I had a good day, my back is feeling much better (not perfect but better) and I enjoyed spending time with Harlan.  I did not see him Monday or Tuesday and only part of Sunday.
I went into a page on my blog site and was so surprised to see the countries my blog has gone and the number of readers picking it up, that's exciting.  Keep reading and I'd love to hear from you........Fran

Hello From Rockville, MN
I spent the afternoon with Harlan, because my back still bothers me and it was so windy I stopped at McD and picked up coffee and McD cookies for our treat, I didn't want to go out in the elements any more then I had to.  Harlan would have liked to have gotten away but tomorrow should be a better day to get out and we'll do some things then.  I understand his frustration he hasn't been away from the VA since Sunday and I went home early then.
It was good to be able to spend time with him, I do cherish our time together.
Until tomorrow, Good Night.........Fran

Hello From Rockville, Minnesota
We are having a lot of wind with a little rain making it feel cold, so glad it's rain not snow.  Some parts of Minnesota will get snow, I'm just not ready for that.
I had a Dr. appointment for my back and I'm just going to wait it out taking Ibuprofen and I'm to try some exercises to strengthen my back, either that or therapy I don't want to try that unless I have to.
I did not go in to see Harlan but I hope to go tomorrow.
Tomorrow we were going to a funeral in New Hope but because of the wind we decided to stay put.
I'll be in touch tomorrow.........Fran

Monday, October 25, 2010

Hello From Rockville
I did not go see Harlan today and tomorrow I have an afternoon Dr appointment and hopefully I'll have some answers on why I hurt.
We are going to have some very windy conditions, I can hear the winds blowing and it sounds wicked. I'm glad that there is no snow in this windy weather as there would be very blizzard conditions out there.
When Denese got home from work she took my chairs off of the patio and put them in the garage and pushed my table over against the wall also took in all the plants we want saved over the winter or try to save.
I am going to try and see Harlan tomorrow but my appointment is so late in the afternoon I don't know what I'll be able to work out.
Until tomorrow, good night..........Fran

Sunday, October 24, 2010

Hello From Rockville
We went to church and out for lunch right from church. We went to Perkins and it was busy, a wait to get seated, and a wait for our food, Harlan had breakfast and Denese and I had lunch. My back is still hurting so I came home right after we ate and Denese went up with Harlan while I waited in the car, he was upset because I didn't spend the afternoon with him but I came home and just rested, I feel better this evening we'll see how tomorrow goes. If this keeps up I'll see if I can get in to see the Dr.
Both Harlan and Denese are watching the Vikings in different places of course and Harlan still enjoys sports.
Today was a good day.......Fran

Saturday, October 23, 2010

Hello From Rockville
I just got done with dinner and I'm stuffed, a hamburger, mushrooms, potato salad and baked beans also milk, a good meal.
My back is much better, still hurts some. I spent the afternoon with Harlan, he played bingo followed by a treat at McD he had a sundae and I had coffee. We had a good time together. When I left at 5:15 I met Denese at Cash Wise, we picked up a few groceries and I headed home while she went on to Aldi and did a bit more shopping.
Late this afternoon it started raining with the temperature in the low 50's it's cold and I'm not used to that. We do need the rain and because it's dry the water will soak in and that's good and one more blessing it's not white.
Today went well, take care and love to all....Fran

Friday, October 22, 2010

Hello From Rockville
My back is still giving me trouble so I did not go in to see Harlan, but I have talked to him several times on the phone, I hope to be able to go in tomorrow.
I'll write tomorrow.......Fran

Thursday, October 21, 2010

Hello From Rockville
Did you miss me?
Yesterday while I was picking up around here and doing laundry my back started to hurt, not painful just mild ache but as the morning wore on it hurt more and more. I haven't had this happen for a long time, I began my ritual of ice packs and ibuprofen and taking it easy, I did not go in to see Harlan but I did talk to him on the phone and he was okay with me not coming in. He had an 8:40 AM appointment this morning so I knew I had to be okay to take him in for that, also Becky and Luke were coming up today and I wanted that to be a fun time with them.
I was able to take Harlan in for his appointment, then we went to the Commissary at the VA for a cup of coffee and a bit of breakfast, he spent some of the "books" he earns playing Bingo, in other words he bought me breakfast.
I took him up to his room and I went home and rested before Becky got here at 1:00. We went back to see Harlan at 3:00 and we went to the Park Diner for an afternoon treat then back to the VA and Becky and Luke checked out the "birds" (peacocks and chickens) while I stayed with Harlan.
I stayed with Him until 5:00 then we went back to Rockville for hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans and apple crisp.
Tomorrow the YAH's group from church are planning a trip to Delano for lunch and the Apple Orchards there. My back hurts some tonight and if it does in the morning I'll skip the trip as I don't want to make it worse.
Today was a good day I enjoyed my time with Becky & Luke and Harlan, and we'll see what tomorrow brings...........Fran

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

Hello From Rockville
My day started with a hair cut at 7:30 so I could get to a new volunteer job at 9:15. Every Tuesday I will be a reading coach at Granite City Baptist Academy from 9:15 to noon. It will be great working with children that need to read out loud and have some one listen and help them with some word pronunciation, the children are so appreciative of the help I always get a thank-you when they leave my area to go back to their class room.
I came home ate lunch and went into St. Cloud and spent the afteroon with Harlan. We went to Perkins for our treat and on the way back we had to stop at a red stop light to make a left turn, I got the green arrow and Harlan says, "Ha, ha we beat you!" refereing to the vehicles still waiting at the light while we got to turn, it tickled him that we got to go first even if they were first in line.
At this time his breathing is not a problem so if he doesn't want to do his neb I don't push him and let him decide if he should, today he did it on his own after Jepardy and before I left.
Today was a great day...........Fran

Monday, October 18, 2010

Hello From Rockville
Harlan has called me several times this evening as part of the power on Harlan's floor was turned off, the reason I don't know. Harlan was upset as he was unable to watch TV, his only entertainment and thought I should come in to spend the evening with him.
This afternoon we went to the Park Diner for a treat after gassing up the van. It was cool today when we went out I had Harlan wear a jacket and it felt good.
Tomorrow I get a hair cut and very shortly I'll get a perm, I need all the old perm gone before I get a new perm as my hair just gets fuzzy and no curl, also the longer I wait I'll have some curl for the holidays, may be.
Today was a good day.......Fran

Sunday, October 17, 2010

Hello From Rockville
It's Sunday, I missed writing Saturday as I was tired when I got home.
I took Harlan to play bingo, he played well but didn't win and bingo was followed with a treat at Culver's, a one scoop sundae. We went back to the VA and after meds and his neb it was five and I left.
I met Denese at Crossroads Mall to do some shopping. I needed a pair of black dress shoes, no heels, as my one pair of dress flats were falling apart and instead of one pair I walked out with two. After shoe shopping we just walked around and looked at stuff then stopped at cj banks, Becky had given me a gift card from there over a year ago and I finally had some one to go with me as I tried on clothes for an opinion on how things fit, I walked out of there with some neat things.
Today I took Harlan to church and when we were heading back to the VA he told me "I am not going to change clothes to go out to eat!" I did get him to take off his tie and we talked him into wearing a pull over sweater instead of his sport coat then we went to the China Star Buffet for lunch and he did very well with no spills. When we got back to the VA we took naps as there was nothing on TV he wanted to watch and when I was ready to leave he decided to take off his dress pants and he put jeans on, a good move on his part. I think I'll try and find some dress jeans in colors other then blue jean color and have him wear them to church as he wears all his clothes from bath day to bath day including his shoes and dress slacks just can't take that wear and tear and look okay. His clothes are changed when he has a bath which is Tuesday and Friday and I totally change him on Sunday.
We had a good time today is spite of our differences on clothes and dressing...........Fran

Friday, October 15, 2010

Hello From Rockville
Oh, the time seems to be flying by, October is about half done and so far no snow not even a hard freeze but I think it's just a matter of time and the flowers will be gone.
I met with the VA support group today so I was at the VA by 1:00 this is an hour long then up to see Harlan.
Harlan and I went to Perkins and we each had a one scoop hot fudge sundae, it was good and just enough to be satisfying and I think Harlan went for his supper, many times if we eat too much he is not hungry and doesn't go to eat supper. Yes, the evening meal is called supper at the VA and noon is dinner.
Today was good!......Fran

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Hello From Rockville
When I checked my blog to see what I had written I see I had not written anything since Monday. I was so sure I had written.
On Tuesday I received a phone call from the VA, Harlan didn't want to take his bath when I talked to him he said he would but he wasn't happy with me or the bath nurse.
Wednesday was birthday bingo, he did well he won three games and we went to the Park Diner for a treat. Today I asked him where he wanted to go for a treat and he said the place where they have those little hamburgers, we went to the Park Diner for the sliders then back to the VA. The last several days have been just normal quiet days with nothing exciting going on and I like it that way, that maybe the reason I haven't written.
My Sister told be about a free program to put on my computer called picsas that is a lot of fun to work with, it sorts all your pictures and all you have to do is put names on them, a very interesting program.
I'll try and not skip writ ting again..........Fran

Monday, October 11, 2010

Hello From Rockville
Another beautiful day.
Harlan and I went to the bank then to Home Depot and Menard's and ended our running around at Culver's. Harlan had a one scoop sundae and I had a cup of soup, we enjoyed our choices. Back at the VA Harlan did his meds, we relaxed, watched Jeopardy and I went home.
Tomorrow we may get some rain and maybe I'll get rid of some bugs on the windshield.....Fran

Saturday, October 9, 2010

Hello From Rockville
Today was bingo for Harlan and when I walked in I put shirts away I brought in for him and because I was putting shirts away in his closet he though I was looking for his bingo card and today he knew exactly where it was, no climbing on the bed to look for it. He played very well and won two games. After bingo we gassed up the van then went to McD for burgers and a drink the back to the VA with about 45 min to relax. He took his pills but refused his neb machine but he has not called to tell me he couldn't breath so I guess skipping a breathing treatment was okay. He can not be forced to take anything he does not want to.
This was a good day and I enjoyed my time with Harlan..........Fran

Friday, October 8, 2010

Hello From Rockville
I did not write yesterday, I'll try and cover two days.
Yesterday the Crosslake Care Group met in the Twin Cities. I was able to go because Jordan's met me in St. Cloud and gave me a ride, that is so appreciated because with out their kindness I couldn't go. There was a good turnout and good food, a beautiful day for the trip. I took Harlan out for a treat when I got back, I suggested McD but he wanted to go where we get those little hamburgers so we went to the Park Diner for their sliders, he enjoys them, two come on a meal and we can choose any two we want.
Today was another busy day. I had a call from my insurance company and was informed my auto insurance would be high as my "55 Alive" had expired and I needed to take it to qualify for the discount. After several calls to AAA I found out it can be taken on line which I did but it was a long test and even with my rushing through it I was on the computer for four hours before I was able to print up my certificate and e-mail it to my insurance company but that should take care of it for three years.
I went to see Harlan and while I was there Jenny and the girls stopped to see him, Jenny gave Grandpa a hair cut while the girls played in his room. After the hair cut we went to the Park Diner for our treat then back to the VA and Jenny went on the the house to spend time with Denese.
Harlan is having problems with his breathing again and it was suggested that it may be anxiety that is causing his problems as his oxygen level is good, when he sees the Dr. later this month we'll talk about it with him.
This was a gorgeous day, one to really enjoy and tomorrow should be nice too, everyone enjoy as they will soon come to and end..............Fran

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Hello From Rockville
We had a frost and now we are having great weather, Indian Summer?
I went in to spend time with Harlan and because it was so nice I took him out the front door and down the steps, I wanted him to walk around the building (it's really two buildings) to see the peacocks and the chickens but he wanted to go back inside, we walked to the ramp which takes us to the basement then out the back door to the car, he didn't want to walk any farther.
Our treat consisted of sundaes at Culver's. After the treat we went to Manard's as I needed a drain plug for my kitchen sink on the disposal side, it is gone and I don't know where it went maybe in the garbage. Now that I have it home it doesn't work too big! It'll have to go back.
We went back to the VA, watched TV and Harlan did his meds. About the time I was leaving Denese walked in we watched the end of Jeopardy and left. Denese and I went to Walmart and I looked for eye glasses, they are so expensive and I need lenses large enough to accommodate trifocals, the small frams just don't work and with my small face it's really hard to find anything that I like and will work.
That's about it, a quiet but good day..............Fran

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

Hello From Rockville
This was a very quiet day. I spent the afternoon with Harlan, no stopping to shop just a treat at the Park diner.
A beautiful day, I drained the water from my hose and coiled it, I'll tie it up and hang it in the garage. I also cleaned my Humming bird feeders so they are ready for the birds in the spring.
Will communicate with you tomorrow, today was a good day...........Fran

Monday, October 4, 2010

Hello From Rockville
Are we having nice weather or what? It's going to be even nicer then today, I love it.
I spent the afternoon with Harlan but first this is Monday and Mary and I met for our Bible study. When I talked to Harlan I told him I had a lot of shopping to do and several places to go and asked him if he wanted to go along and he always wants to get out so we got "on the road" just before 2:00. First stop the bank, you gota have money to shop. Next stop the grocery store, I had gotten a rain check from Coborns about a month ago for lean hamburger, the month was up today and if I wanted it today was it. When you're in the store you always see things you need, at least I do, from there to Bed Bath and Beyond, I had a coupon for 15% off of one item, today was the day to use or throw it, I needed a potato peeler and found one there. After all those stops it was treat time and we went to Perkins, Harlan had a breakfast and hot chocolate and I had coffee and a GIANT chocolate chip cookie, oh so good. After the four stops we went back to the VA, Harlan wanted to know where else we were going as he wanted to go more, two hours of running around was enough for me.
It was a good day, I enjoyed my time with Harlan.......Fran

Hello From Rockville
I called Harlan to tell him to go for breakfast and when he was done he should shave and I'd be in to get him ready for church. When I called him he was sure this was Sat and church wasn't until tomorrow, he did understand about today being Sunday. I told Him I'd bring in clothes for him, his comment to that, "Is that where I get clothes, I didn't know you brought them in." When I got there he had all his under clothes out to change, shorts, t-shirt and socks and he had taken off his shirt and t-shirt and was waiting for me. He had also washed him self using a wash cloth he had scrubbed under his arms and had made his armpits raw and the deodorant burned when he put it on. I have to check his underarms tomorrow to make sure he doesn't get an infection.
We went to church then to Applebees for lunch. I love their steak and Harlan loves ribs, he ate a rack of ribs and really enjoyed them, I thought I might have been able to bring a few ribs home but he ate them all even to the point of "licking" the bones. It was so much fun to see him enjoying them. They are so messy to eat and I wanted to keep his clothes clean, I bring an adult bib with and he doesn't mind wearing one and I don't have to be concerned about dropping anything on the front of him or in his lap and he can even wipe his hands on it.
After lunch we headed back to the VA, watched a little TV, he did his meds and I went home.
Today was good day another treasure.......Fran

Hello From Rockville
Today started early, Denese and I were out of here at 6:00 AM and at church by 6:30 to be in Rosemont by 9 for an all day event. There were very good speakers and interesting work shops. We left there about 5:00 and back in town at 6:30. My phone quit working so Harlan had no way to contack me nor could I call him, Denese did talk to him several times and he seemed okay but chose not to eat supper. As soon as we got to town I headed for T-mobile to get my phone working again but because it was late in the day I did not see Harlan today but will spend tomorrow with him.
I had a good day and it will be good to get in to see Harlan tomorrow..........Fran
